Lambda

Abstract: As many people now have a pet (or more) at home, many are wondering how to prevent their naughty behavior. Lambda aims to solve this problem with the aid of a smart wearable device designed to fit comfortably on the pet’s collar. This compact and lightweight device works alongside the tags that come with the device, which the user places accordingly within the house to mark the areas they do not wish the pet to enter. When the pet approaches these “forbidden” points, the smart device on the collar alerts the pet of their mischief. Three tags come out of the box, along with the apparatus to be placed on the collar. Being small, the tags do not take much place in your house, neither does the device bother the pet. Not only that, but the product comes at an affordable price unmatched in the market.

Abstract: This project aims to design and implement a smart home security system that monitors a residence in order to detect possible intrusions. We, Future Technologies, have designed a smart home security system that ensures safety by classifying people as residents, visitors, and intruders detecting various abnormalities in order to notify residents about anything that threatens the security of their homes while preserving their privacy.

Abstract: HESTIA was established by the five ambitious electrical and electronics engineers to design METU EEE Capstone Design Project and bring it to life. The company has recently conducted studies on residence surveillance and generated adaptable designs for the “Home Security System” project. This project aims to design and implement an autonomous smart home security system that distingueshes residents, guests and possible intruders, and acts accordingly. The system observes entries, intrusions and anomalies, then log them in a database system to be observed by the residents. The system also provides two interfaces one of which is for controlling the system remotely. On these interfaces, residents take notifications, access database and control the camera.

Abstract: Moving object tracking robots have become an important concept which is generally suitable for a use in the defense field. They can be used for target tracking or border security applications. In this project, as FIDAR, we designed an orbiting system consistent of an agent and a robot. The agent is a passive moving land vehicle which moves in a certain direction with a nearly constant velocity. On the other hand, the robot is a vehicle which detects, catches and orbits two tour around the agent.

Project: Smart Shopping Cart

Abstract: As a group of engineers with the goal of being the future’s solution to today’s problems, MAMOA comes with a smart shopping cart that solves some major contemporary problems of shopping. When people need to visit a store in person, the image of long waiting lines at the cashier compels them, and it only gets worse with a loaded cart to carry around. The smart shopping cart, on the other hand, follows its designated customer inside the shop and gives the total price to be paid with a display, with no need for reading the barcodes of each item at the cashier. Along with these innovative features, it avoids collisions and soothes the shop owner by having an abuse prevention utility to avoid theft.

Abstract: For a person their home is a sacred place. Therefore, they want to keep their home safe at all costs. With this idea in mind, we, the Xor&Beyond Company developed a home security system that customers can trust without any worries. Our main requirement is that the system should be able to detect any entrance attempt and classify the person as a resident, a visitor or an intruder. The main locations that trespassing can occur are the doors and windows of the house. The system also is able to detect any anomalous activity happening around the house while protecting the house from intrusions at all times. The doors are protected with two cameras which are situated on the door and on the nearest wall. We developed two algorithms, namely Face Recognition and Body Detection, to use on this system. We ensure the security of the windows using sensors.

Abstract: The aim of ANATEK is to enable people to live more safely and peacefully in their homes. For this purpose, we developed HSx Home Security System. ANATEK HSx can detect the hosts, guests, foreigners and pets entering the house by running instant image processing algorithms with our system that we have installed at the entrances of our houses. In the event of a possible threat, an alarm is sounded and a possible unauthorized entry is not allowed, and all detections are transmitted to our customers instantly via the user interface. These data are accumulated in the database, allowing for retrospective scans.

Abstract: The Cısss! Project conducted by UnaSempre provides both a cost-effective and an environmentally friendly solution to the ever-growing problem of controlling pet behavior in settlements. Pet owners are provided with a collar that can detect a defined zone or passage with the help of identical and interchangeable passive tags embodying Bluetooth-Low-Energy technology. The power consumption is very low, and the power is provided with rechargeable Li-Ion batteries, reducing the disposal. The master unit is 60 grams, a wearable device a puppy can carry around easily. The master unit and the tags interact whenever the master unit detects the BLE signal strength corresponding to RSSI of -70 dB, which is a 1-meter radius distance and produces a sound signal with increasing frequency with decreasing distance. The sound signal will disturb the pet and cause it to move away from the zone while causing no harm to the animal’s well-being.

Project: Orbiter

Abstract: Humanity is rapidly moving towards an era where many applications are aimed to be fully automated. Indigo Technology is a Turkey-based company, co-founded by five enthusiastic electrical and electronics engineers and focuses on providing automated services for search and rescue teams in hazardous areas during/after the wars and natural disasters. Our flagship product The Orbiter can collect information in these dangerous environments by locating, catching and monitoring a certain moving or stationary object. The first working prototype of the Orbiter can detect, approach and orbit around the target object two times, under only 30 seconds. The prototype consists of wheels and motors, internal rechargeable battery and a AI machine vision sensor for detection and total cost of the prototype is only $176. The Orbiter is a very promising product and with increased funding and further research, Indigo Tech can implement extra features for various fields.

Project: Home Security

Abstract: The system aims to provide a safe environment for the house’s residents by detecting anomalous activities and monitoring the house’s entries as it consists of four protection layers designed to represent different risk levels. The system has different price quotes that suit all house types with a highly efficient solution. Also, the system is built using the IoT solution in which all the subsystems are independently operating. Their connections are made through the local home network’s internet, enabling the system to implement in any house without any infrastructure or wires connections costs. All the subsystems communicate using a shared real-time database provided by Google Firebase with the free version. The team ensured that the data used in the communications does not exceed the free version of Google Firebase limit, even if the system kept operating for a whole month. Thus, the team excludes this service from the budget as it is considered a free service for the customer.

Abstract: In those days, technology is a tool to increase the quality of life. Shopping is an everyday problem, and it has its difficulties such as pushing heavy carts in the supermarket while sometimes shopper’s hands are busy or waiting to check out. We have decided to solve the problems of shopping by utilizing the trending technologic developments and came up with a shopping cart idea that is cheap, efficient, effective and a solution to problems. Our autonomous shopping cart can track 1000 different customers in a supermarket if customers wear special markers provided by us. It can understand and calculate the total price and even prevent theft by giving an alarm when an illegal behavior is sensed. As EKOMSAN, we can set up the necessary environment for a supermarket is a short time and ease shopping for the customers and also cashiers.

Abstract: Nowadays, most of the people is into growing organic edible plants on their own due to various reasons such as uncertainty of origin of the goods or the chemicals that are involved during the production of the fruits and vegetables. However, not everyone is capable of growing their plants at their homes since majority of people does not have the time or the experience. Therefore, engineers of E-SOL company has come up with a product that aims to help to those who need assistance in growing their own edible plants at home. The product has 7 subsystems which are corresponsible for monitoring the plants for pests, diseases and ripeness level while also satisfying the needs of the plants in terms of watering, temperature, nutrition and ligthing. Overall product offers a very compact design with highly accurate solutions which enables its users to enjoy the process of growing plants at their home while automating the tedious parts of the process.

Abstract: Growing edible plants at home is something that many people are interested in doing, however it can be difficult. People could benefit from an automated system in this regard. By utilizing sensors (such as moisture, temperature, light, etc.), such a system should automatically detect the present state of the plant and perform the right steps when necessary. We created an intelligent home agricultural system for the edible plant, tomato. The device is functional to: continue to keep an eye on the health and development of your plants such as plant diseases, whenever required, water the plant, add the nutrients and fertilizers required, provide treatments and necessary countermeasures for acidity level changes and ensure that there is adequate ventilation, heating, and lighting.

Abstract: Nowadays, agriculture at home seems like a hobby that a considerable amount of the humanity had. However, in the future, agriculture at home can be vital because of growing population. Global population is expected to reach over 9 billion in 2050. Therefore, in the future, the accessibility food will be challenging according to Dilrukshi Hashini Galhena, Russell Freed & Karim M Maredia who are researchers in agriculture. To be prepared for these challenging days and overcome challenges of home agriculture, Aegis Inc. offers a sustainable agriculture system for specific needs of edible plants. The project will satisfy the objectives given below:

• Detects the ripeness and health of the plant
• Provides remedies for diseases and insects

Project: Orbiter

Abstract: Due to a wide range of application areas such as robotics, surveillance, security, military, unmanned air and ground vehicles, medical applications, and so on, the concepts of moving object detection, identification of motion, focusing on and chasing a moving object, and orbital motion around a moving object have recently received considerable attention in both academic research studies and industrial applications. The main purpose of the project “Orbiter” is to orbit a central agent robot moving at a constant arbitrary speed greater than 10 cm/s while following a straight path with an orbiter robot. In the proposed project by NorthStar.io, the orbiter is able to detect the central agent from a distance up to 3 m, and follow it till reaching to orbital distance. It is able to complete its total response including detecting, catching-up, and orbiting the central agent with two rounds around it under 20 seconds in average. The system also presents outstanding features such as a robust vision system provided enhanced vision functions including distance and pixel error measurements using only camera without needing any external or additional sensors, adaptability to speed and direction variations, real-time performance analysis tools, and long battery life.

Abstract: The need for a secure home is increasing day by day in today’s society. In the year of 2022, with the pandemic fading away, people spend more time outside. However, they also want to monitor their home and be alarmed if something abnormal happens, such as intrusion, even if they are far away. CapLox introduces a smart autonomous home security system, which is remotely manageable with a simple user-friendly mobile app that also sends notifications whenever an intrusion, intrusion attempt or anomaly happens.

Abstract: Nutrition plays a crucial role in human life. Vegetables and fruits are a key part of a healthy and balanced diet. Even though the usage of pesticides and GM (genetically modified) seeds in agriculture has few negative effects on human health, it is gradually increasing to feed the increasing high population. Accessing fresh vegetables and fruits has become a major problem nowadays. The new product of Michael Scott Paper Company offers a chance to overcome this problem. “Leaf It To Me” (Li2M) is an intelligent agriculture project that is suitable for home use. This product will allow you to grow healthy and fresh vegetables and fruits at your home without making tremendous efforts. This product has fully automated sub-systems which are heating, cooling, irrigation, fertilization disease detection, and lightning systems which work according to outputs of reliable sensors. Also, all of the system can be observed via mobile application.

Abstract: Currently, self-service grocery stores are the most popular places for shopping, and while shopping in such store, one must push a cart, maneuvering it between shelves and wait in long checkout lines which are undoubtedly make the overall experience unbearable and annoying most of the time, even impossible for people experiencing short-term or permanent disabilities. While it could be a fast, effortless, disabled-friendly, and even joyful event, if a modern and systematic approach was taken towards how shopping is done. To this aim, we present the Smart Shopping Cart featuring unique solutions for the these problems in the shopping experience. It is designed to follow the user autonomously from a safe but reachable distance which will turn shopping into an effortless activity. The cart also has a user interface that recognizes the products inside, shows the subtotal cost and allows users to make payment easily.

Abstract: In this mobilized world, there are still moments where people become bounded to non-digitalized customs, such as waiting in a cashier line with a heavy cart to push. People nowadays have become used to getting everything with just a touch of a finger, therefore this old-fashioned shopping practice has better keep up with the digitalization in order not to lose its customers and become an ancient memory of the human civilization. Thanks to the design and engineering behind the DeepCart, this goal can be achieved. With this design, DeepCart can detect and track customer without any additional tag. By utulizing this property, a highly flexiable and user-frienly autonomous shopping cart is presented. Furthermore, while producing this cart with a price around $200, we also give guarantee of at least 2-hours run on battery.

Abstract: Nowadays, intelligent solutions are essential parts of the homes because people want to control every side of their homes. Therefore, as OakTech we designed a home security system that recognize the residents, visitors, and intruders entering the house by running real-time image processing algorithms using 2 installed cameras on the entrance of the home. In case of the unauthorized entries and anomaly detections, system warns the user with a mobile app notification. Also, by using a wireless camera which has a controllable field of view and a motion sensor connected to that, user can control also another side of the of the home . Moreover, all the hardware components are placed in a compact and light 3-D printed cases which are ready to use.

Abstract: We are going to develop a system that grows plants automatically. Agricultural areas are becoming concrete due to evolving technology and urbanization. Due to increasing global warming, production and efficiency are decreasing, and the food produced is not enough for the rapidly growing world population. Therefore, most people will need to grow edible plants in their homes. This may be a want or a necessity. As we mentioned before, agricultural areas are getting concrete, and we aim to do agriculture without using soil in this order. Therefore, our system will be hydroponic, and necessary substances will be delivered via water; we will use a motor to make the water flow. We will sense compounds in the solution with an EC meter to understand whether the plants need nutrients and fertilizers. When plants need nutrients and fertilizers, they will be added to water. We may add compounds to the pipeline from many points or circulate the system via the motor to make a homogeneous mixture. Also, we will use a camera to follow plant development. We will make disease recognition, and disease control signals will be sent to other sub-blocks according to detected features. According to image processing results, we will use a spray trigger if the plant is under illness. Sensors are used to follow the current condition of the plant. Then if the lighting is needed, LEDs will be turned on. For ventilation, we will use a fan and a heater. The heater can be a resistor with a high resistance value.

Abstract: Our company has a main goal of developing an autonomous system that cultivates edible plants in homes. The end goal of the product is taking away the tedious work of home farming from the user/consumer. The product is responsible for both monitoring the plant, soil, air, lighting status and taking actions of watering, fertilizing, lighting, heating, ventilation, agricultural spraying, and notifying the user. The dream idea is that the user sets up the product at the beginning then forgets it until it gets a “ready for harvest” notification on their mobile devices. As in all projects, this project started as a simple dream. We wanted to design and build a project that can take care of the home agriculture process entirely. As is the nature of developing such projects, we needed to find solutions to multiple problems/requirements. We came up with multiple answers for each problem, then we evaluated those answers, and we picked the reasonable solutions.

Abstract: “Cısss!” is a robust system that will warn your pets if they get near any dangerous location in the house. For doing so, the system uses RFID technology for the detection of tags. The kinds of animals targeted in this project are medium-sized dogs. The warnings will be a hybrid application of ultrasound and vibration. In the “first level”, an ultrasonic warning is delivered. In the “second level”, when the pet gets closer to the tag, vibration motors are also activated at half power. When the pet gets even closer to the tag which makes the “third level”, vibration motors are activated at full power. The tags are passive and the active collar can be recharged. The delivered package contains the collar, 5 tags, the charger and the user manual.

Abstract: As technology progresses, we are blessed with new innovative products that increase our comfort level. Smart home appliances make up the huge portion of some of these products, mostly providing supervision around the household. According to the survey results there are 69 million dog owners in the US alone. What if we could automate pet supervision in households ? The “Cısss” project accomplishes an automatic and self-contained pet supervision system provided by the Super-Vision. The “Cısss” project is capable of discouraging pets from accessing forbidden areas via acoustic feedback. 3 levels of sound provide a gentle discouragement, moderate discouragement and extreme discouragement for the pet according to the distance between the pet and the user placed self-contained tag.

Abstract: The Orbiter is an innovative system of mobile, completely autonomous devices capable of displaying intelligent, controlled motion upon various terrains and initial conditions. On the one hand is the Agent, designed using complex feedback systems onboard its processor that allows it to maintain straight-line motion and revert to its original path upon forced direction alterations. On the other hand is the Orbiter device, an autonomous device capable of detecting, reaching, and circumambulating the Agent within set time constraints. It uses the onboard processor with a pattern detection algorithm running in real-time. After rigorous software and hardware testing, the suite of devices has been proven to operate optimally as expected.

Abstract: THE END is a company established by five senior-year students who are currently bachelor candidates in the Electrical & Electronics Engineering Department at Middle East Technical University. The purpose behind the union of the students is to design one of METU EEE Capstone Design Projects, Intelligent Agriculture at Home. “Intelligent Agriculture at Home” is a system for the ones who have a plant or desire to tend. However, people might not be able to pay the required time and attention to their plants. From a different aspect, even if people can take care of their plants, adjusting the necessary conditions is quite difficult for plants without any measurement tools. Intelligent Agriculture at Home annihilates the negative sides of growing a plant. The product provides the best conditions for plants and every need of the plant are provided without human interference.

Abstract: Pet ownership rates have increased tremendously in recent years. However, we cannot keep track of our pets all the time. Seniors Engineering produced a wearable device to prevent pets from accessing unwanted spots. With Smart Collar, the kitchen counter, open window and sleeping baby’s room are now safe. All you have to do is put one of the 4 tags provided together with the Smart Collar at the point you want to restrict, and you can keep your pet away from there. By using 2 tags, you can prevent it from passing through the doors and entering the rooms. Using UWB wireless communication technology, our product is highly robust to direction changes and item interventions.

Abstract: A significant number of people today share their homes with pets, especially cats. Although being a roommate with these cute friends is invaluable, it comes with significant responsibilities. Cats can make a rod for their own back by acting in ways that you cannot predict. Unfortunately, it is not possible to be with your cat and keep it away from potentially dangerous behaviors. These can cause not only your cat but also you to encounter various problems and experience negative consequences. Thanks to “Cısss!” developed by NanTech, this is not a problem anymore! Your cat will be given gradual warning (sound and vibration) to prevent it from approaching undesirable places marked by you! Enjoy using this easy-to-use and affordable product to ensure your pet’s safety.

With the lack of a high-performing product in the market, Protégé Inc. has designed and implemented a fully integrated, low-cost, sustainable, and scalable solution that will make a home farmer’s life easier.

Project: Smart Shopping Cart

Abstract: In the markets, while shopping, pushing or directing a shopping cart can be tiresome. Also, it is not easy for everyone to push or maneuver the cart, especially for elders or people with disabilities. In addition, long waiting lines for payments and unloading at the cashiers are total waste of time and effort. Moreover, regular cashiers occupy lots of space, especially in small markets, therefore getting rid of those can create spacious fields, reducing the waste of space. Furthermore, everyone would like to experience a shorter shopping period without waiting for any unnecessary actions, such as emptying the cart and reloading. In order to figure out aforementioned problems, a semi-autonomic shopping cart is designed. The cart follows the customer, and avoids colliding with other objects in the environment. These functionalities are included within “motion subsystem”. While shopping, the cart reads the items that are put in and calculates the total price as well as preventing illegal actions. Also, smart shopping cart’s user-friendly interface communicates with the customer. “Item subsystem” deals with these features. Shopping cart’s “power subsystem” manages the charging and power supply issues. The cart’s state-of-the-art mechanical structure is created in the “design subsystem”.

Abstract: In a world where burglary and shoplifting rates are still considerably dangerous, people need a safe place to live their lives. The Phobis company proposes an innovative solution to this problem, a preferable alternative to the current products in the market. Thus, a smart and modular home security system has been designed and developed to bring a valuable perspective to the sector. This system has been designed for homeowners who want to own a home that knows their guests and even their pets and is concerned about the security of their home. The system uses a webcam, IPU, various types of sensors for peripherals, and a mobile app for its user-friendly functions.

Abstract: Our company, Soteria, has worked on developing a smart home security system that can detect any uninvited access and take the appropriate steps such as informing residents/police forces or closing the doors, among other things. There are three problems/steps that our system solves one by one:
1- Detecting regular or unwanted entries/entry attempts and determining whether or not each entry/entry attempt is an unusual behavior.
2- Taking the necessary procedures if an unusual behavior is detected within or near the house.
3- Allowing the user to see the log of entries/exits and regulate the security system’s operation.

Our approach to these problems may be summarized as;
List of the solutions used for the detecting problem:
● Installation of cameras inside or outside the home
● Using pressure and motion sensors to detect forcible entry/attempts and wandering persons about the property.
● Having a neural network design for face recognition, object detection, and motion recognition algorithms
● Using RFID for pet entry-exit detection
List for the solutions used for the action problem:
● Smart door and window locks
● An alarm
● Internet connection to send a warning to the residents and service providers
And for the accessibility problem, we designed a mobile application for the user to access the system’s features.

At this exact point, PikachuTech – Home Security System offers innovative solutions for you. PikachuTech Home Security System keeps intruders away from your house by its anomaly detection solutions which utilizes pose estimation, face recognition and window intrusion detection system. Thanks to PikachuTech notification system and user-friendly website, whenever something abnormal happens around your house, these activites will be recorded and inform you wherever you are. Keeping logs to the house will make you see who is in your house, and who is outside. Moreover, with extra facilities, PikachuTech will keep you away from danger.

Project: Agriculture at Home

Abstract: This project’s purpose is to develop an economical, practical, environmentally beneficial, and user-friendly solution that allows users to cultivate organic basil plants at home with minimal effort. Despite the fact that agriculture is typically carried out for large populations in vast private restricted areas, this industrialized effort presents some hurdles to food access and low quality. The expense of transportation, the chemicals used, and economic obstacles are all major considerations. The idea is to make this process easier by merging agricultural production with technology and bringing these advancements into our homes and almost everywhere else. Because of its harsh environmental needs and wide range of applications, the basil plant was chosen as the plant of interest.

Project: Agriculture at Home

Abstract: The Intelligent Agriculture system, offered by the CreaTech Company, is designed to grow edible plants at homes in an autonomous way. Firstly, our system differs from other existing conventional systems with its innovative approach, “Vertical Farming”. Vertical Farming is a soilless agriculture technique with many advantages. Accelerating the growing process, enhancing efficiency, occupying less space, and eliminating most of the harmful insects are some examples of these advantages. Secondly, the Intelligent Agriculture system enables the optimum conditions for the plant, such as heating, lighting, ventilation, etc. It continuously monitors the plant and decides the health condition of the plant and ripeness level. Last but not least, our system provides effective communication with the user. The user is informed with a user-friendly interface about the health condition of the plant, ripeness level of the fruits/vegetables, and environmental measurements.

Project: Smart Shopping Cart

Abstract: Like many other technological innovations, Smart Shopping Cart project offers a simple yet precise solution for the burden of carrying the shopping cart and removing items in the cashier line and put back. UZATANLAR designed a system that can autonomously follow a customer from 30-40 cm distance with collision avoidance system placed in it. Also, this system can precisely detect the items in the market when put in the basket of the Smart Shopping Cart and calculate the total price. UZATANLAR also adds avoidance against theft. By using this product, shopping will be fun and a lot easier.
